I don't have a car. Sometimes, though, it would be nice to drive places. In order to facilitate this, I rented a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. They are currently running a special, $30 from Friday at noon until Monday at noon. Not bad.
When I picked up the vehicle, though, they told me I had to buy insurance for $15 a day. I said I thought if I charged it to my Visa, they would cover collision or theft. No, they said, you need to buy it.
$15 insurance per day on a $10 per day rental? But I'd already made plans for the weekend, so I bit the bullet and bought it.
Later, I called the credit union and asked then if rental insurance was covered if paid with the Visa card. They told me to refer to my policy. Since I don't carry that with me, I decided to look online instead. Guess what? Visa provides collision and theft coverage.
I called Enterprise and they (supposedly) dropped the insurance. They rent cars every day--they must know that Visa provides such coverage. What bastards!
