Bad TV memory: a fun game to play on road trips

How many episodes of Silver Spoons can you remember?

Here' my list:
  • Naughty Nurses
  • "It looks like someone washed Robert Redford in hot water!"
  • Tommy Lasorda baseball card
  • The tomboy tried to get Ricky to think of her as something other than "one of the guys"

I can only remember half as many episodes of Different Strokes.

Helping People Help People

Have you seen the Born in September campaign? It's a charity that is raising money to drill wells for water in Ethiopia. That's not a particularly unique cause, but their method is interesting: they are inviting people who were born in the month of September to become spokespeople and help raise money. Were you born in September? If so, you can create a personalized page right now that you can send to friends and family to help raise money.

September birthdays? Just exclusive enough: only one out of (approximately) 12 people qualify! It's another granfalloon, like the Red-Headed League or Hoosiers. It's so ridiculous that I love it.

And it really gets at the heart of an idea that's been rolling around in my head for a while: people are their own best fundraisers. Like all the charity bike rides where the riders try to drum up sponsor dollars from the co-workers, this encourages the Virgos and Libras out there to trump up dollars for a cause that is completely separate from them and yet completely intertwined with them.

Wouldn't it be great to help people become champions for a cause? Give them some little push: based on our survey data, you've been selected to battle illiteracy! I know it sounds crazy, but this is an idea that I really like.
