Regional Dialect

The Indiana boy sittin' next to me is trying to tell me that where he comes from, a knit cap is called a toboggan. That's makes me laugh, because everyone knows that a toboggan is a long wooden sled! Imagine wearing a toboggan on your head!

But he has found a surprising number of web sites that refer to such knit caps as toboggans or toboggan caps.

Since we're talking about regional variations, don't forget to visit The Great Pop vs. Soda Controversy.

P.S. Do people in Minnesota really play Duck, Duck, Gray Duck instead of Duck, Duck, Goose? I was only four years old when I moved to Michigan, so I don't remember.
